We have been breeding Salukis now for approximately 31 years, and are a small, yet successful kennel, located in one of the Southern Suburbs of Sydney, about 40 minutes from the Sydney airport.
Our other love is water sports, especially in the Summer time, when showing Salukis is put on the 'back burner' as during this time of the year is usually too hot during the day here in Sydney to show dogs. So to relax over the weekends we go boating with friends, Tony loves to go fishing and Cathy just likes to lounge around in the water for the day, with a good Australian wine and fine food. We even have a swimming pool in the backyard so either our Salukis or we can cool off on a hot day.
We came across the Saluki purely by accident, while visiting an Arabian Horse Stud one day with friends, we saw our first 3 month old Saluki, when we set our eyes on this long legged skinny, looking pup that looked like a cross between a Greyhound and an Afghan and we were hooked, so to speak, and later on that afternoon made the drive up to Wyong to visit Gloria Lanagan of Nejib Salukis and purchased our first Saluki, Nejib Deura who was also our foundation bitch. I guess we have been owned by Salukis ever since then.
Catonam is known for QUALITY not quantity as well as truly outgoing temperaments, not to mention true Saluki type.

I suppose you could say, according to some circles, our Salukis are the 'old fashioned' type. We only breed when its time to add another show addition to our own kennel and sometimes there are show puppies available.
Our list of wins over the last 31 years is too numerous to mention, but our latest win was with our Ch. Khamseh Inooshah, better known as Chillie, was Best in Show at Sunbury 2003. Sunbury is the biggest All Breeds Championship Show in the southern hemisphere. Group judge was Mr David Miller (Saluki Specialist from USA), and General Specials judge was Mrs. Helen James (USA).
One thing that Cathy has always dreamed of doing, importing a Saluki to add to the Catonam clan. Well that dream is now a reality with 'Hawk', Timaru Night Hawk who has now joined our Catonam team. Our first introduction to Timaru Salukis was while Cathy was holidaying in England in July 2000, and was staying with Ken and Dianna Allan of Jazirat Salukis, she was invited to handle their import Eng. Ch. Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat at the English Hound Club Championship Show. Kyrie went on to win Best of Breed under Saluki Specialist judge Mr. Nick Bryce-Smith, and then Runner up Best in Show under world renowned judge Mr. Leonard Pagliero, and soon after arriving home made contact with Lesley Brabyn of Timaru Salukis with the help of Dianna Allan.
Please take a few minutes to view Catonam Salukis starting from yesteryear, with the first Catonam Litter to where we are now.
